Southwest Medical University

Southwest Medical University formerly Luzhou Medical College is a medical university in Luzhou, Sichuan, China.  The university was established in 1951. Southwest Medical University is under the provincial government of Sichuan and is listed with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and International Medical Education Directory (IMED). The university has two campuses: Zhongshan and Chengbei, covering 1,004,700 square meters in total.

Southwest Medical University began to enroll international students in 1996. The passing rate is 81.9%.

It has 5 non-subordinating hospitals and 39 teaching hospitals with a total of 15,500 patient beds. The university has an international student exchange & scientific research exchange programs with over 9 countries among them Germany, Japan, USA and the neighbouring SAARC countries.

Admissions and Eligibility

MediumThe medium of instruction is English. Study of Chinese language compulsory in the 1st year which may be extended further. This is for facilitating effective interaction during clinical period and comfortable stay. Passing of the HSK (Chinese as a Foreign Language) mandatory.
Duration5 years Studies and 1 year Internship. Internship may be done either in the university or in the home country.
Eligibility10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Admission will be based on high school credentials and Admission Test/Interview.
MCI EligibilityEligibility Certificate to pursue Primary Medical Qualification (MBBS or its equivalent) by an Indian Citizen/Overseas Citizen of India is mandatory in terms of section 13(4B) of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956.
